adj. Continuous change or progress.
noun A force that stimulates change or progress.
Like many 17 years olds, I left for college excited to reinvent myself. But it didn't take long to have a very hard realiziation-- personal change doesn’t come from a clean slate in a new place because...
Wherever you go, there you are.
I struggled to find my footing in Charleston, South Carolina and it wasn't until I found an amazing therapist and MY OWN space, a sunlit apartment where I felt truly at ease.
This period of autonomy helped me trust my myself and others; learn how to communicate more effectively; and explore passions, interests, and various fulfilling career paths. It was life on my own terms. And for the next 12 years, I was content and fulfilled, tying my sense of identity to my home and my life in Charleston.
This city shaped who I became, but Charleston was growing more crowded and more expensive each year. While I embraced personal change, embracing the direction my beloved city was heading was more difficult. Then the day came when I received the dreaded letter—my rent would increase.
Devastated was an understatement- I was shaken to my core. As I sobbed and cycled through my options, I had an epipheny—my aha moment.
I can accept life as it is OR I can travel the world for one year, experience everything I dreamed and THEN figure it out.
Now this is imperative to mention, my only previous experience abroad was a distressing and fallible trip to Spain 15 years earlier.
But I was steadfast with my plan as I rode the emotional rollercoaster of doubt, fear, and excitement. I bought a world map, stuck it on my wall, downsized, hustled, saved, and learned to prioritize my time with the people I love.
April 2017, I set off on my a one-year journey around the world (atleast that's was the plan). During my first year, I backpacked my way through Europe, parts of the middle east, Morocco, and through Africa. I left my plans and my life open to the incredible possibilities and experiences I had never dreamed of.
By the time I reached Cape Town, South Africa, I was invited to speak at Pecha Kucha 49 in front of an audience of 500 people. With sweaty palms and a pounding heart, I shared my philosophy on Living a Dynamic Life, built on four pillars:
⭐ Turning obstacles into opportunities
⭐ The power of kindness
⭐ Enriching your life by saying yes
⭐ Staying accountable to yourself
By traveling and keeping an open mind, I had unexpectadely created this dynamic life filled with new passions, people, experiences, values, lifestyles, and perspective shifts in incredible places. But it was with a heavy heart and certitude, I knew I probably wouldn't live in Charleston again.
I launched A Dynamic Life Travel Blog featuring stories, hard-earned lessons, guides, and recipes to inspire others to chase their dreams. I write authentically about the magic and messiness that comes with travel and a life abroad. While I love the connection writing can bring, I knew I wanted to connect on a deeper and more personal level.
In 2024, I became a certified coach through Solutions Academy and the Travel Coach Network, earning my International Coaching Federation (ICF) Certification. I work with people from all walks of life, helping them step into their own dynamic life—whatever that looks like for them.
The truth is, none of this—none of it—would have been possible without the therapists, coaches, friends, and family who supported me along the way. Their guidance through the years helped me not only embrace change and personal growth, but seek it out for myself. Their impact on my life is why I do what I do now.
If you’re seeking change but aren’t sure where to start, I’d love to be part of your journey.
And if you’re still curious about my story, you can always find me on the pages of
A Dynamic Life.
